What is the “CoreTalents Methodology”?

     


 

CoreTalents reveal your nature, your potential and your intrinsic motivation.

They are the source of all the good you can live up to – but then again also the cause of potential failure if you go against your nature. CoreTalents are the properties you dispose of to fulfil your realistic dreams.

The set of CoreTalents (like a blueprint) is your personality. This blueprint is what makes you special, with a unique set of characteristics and extremely difficult to alter.

 

The CoreTalents Method is a completely new and unique way of finding out more about one’s personality on a deeper level than on the core competence one and this with regard to the right choice of studies, profession & job. It goes back to 25 years of in depth interviews with >10,000 MSc (Applied) Engineering at all levels: junior/executive, fresh/very experienced, expert/manager, etc. and also hundreds of completely different profiles. It has been described by Danielle Krekels in her book “Speel je KernTalenten uit – Kinderspeelgoed vertelt wie je bent” (Ed. De Boeck, 2004). Throughout the years it has proven to be a very accurate, quick and useful instrument/tool . It has also been greatly important that the methodology is accepted & supported by the interviewees themselves. The methodology aims at supporting human resources professionals, outplacement consultants, recruitment, selection & head hunting officials, parents, teachers, professional coaches, psychologists, etc., helping people with their professional advice.

Essential nature of the CoreTalents Method:

The type of games , toys, interests & all kinds of activities you liked most as a child between the age of 4-ca. 12 years (start puberty) old is the unintentional externalisation of your nature, the involuntary outing of your original personality.

These games , toys, interests & activities have been clustered in 23 largely defined CoreTalents with characteristic components. They are the basis of the translation to professionally useful descriptions.

Main differences of the CoreTalents Method with the existing methodologies and systems for personality research:

  • the time of the examined period is 8 years long, instead of a description of a given prerecording
  • it is not about what you would do (now) in certain circumstances - mentally heavily influenced by ‘desired behaviour’, but about what you actually DID in ‘tempore non suspecto’: at a time it did not mean anything ‘serious’ for your future
  • it gives an inside view of your latent CoreTalents, those not yet developed - in combination with those already (partly) developed, bearing in mind the life events you experienced, the chances you had and other factors
  • all the CoreTalents discovered are weighed, nuanced and combined - since everybody has more than one CoreTalent - which leads consistently to constructive decisions. You may see it as an application of ‘positive psychology’ that confirms you in your individual value and shows you the right possible directions for studies, profession and job choices, so to speak as main ‘trump cards’ in your personality
  • it combines both ‘GAP’ and ‘Appreciative Inquiry’ psychology, leading to an authentic decision making based on strong points, taking into account smaller points in nature, in potential and intrinsic motivation
  • the power it has to discover the level of the dangerous Peter Principle, on top of the level of danger for underachievement and demotivation
  • the possibility to detect the right and/or convenient trainings that appeal to your personality and thus consequently lead to far better results…

This is the most difficult thought to accept, although you probably ‘feel’ or ‘know’ that you never ‘really’ change - even after 20 years of psychotherapy twice a week. CoreTalents do not stand alone: they interact with one another. Their combination, nuances, weight & development (!) are extremely important for a correct analysis, since the right interpretation also depends heavily on external factors in human life. That’s why it is of the utmost importance to conduct a professionally structured biographical in-depth interview immediately after the CoreTalents analysis and this in a private as well as in a professional sense. This well structured in-depth interview is never meant to discuss the studies, profession or job, but only to check and nuance the view of one’s individuality (strengths & weaknesses, wishes & dreams, competences, skills, personality & character, life events, education & chances, etc.). They all had their influences on the personality development! And, last but not least: a positive approach is of the utmost importance for effective results, because it helps people open up and accept their relative weaknesses.
